JOTTINGS FROM JERE WHITSON September 23,2010
• Jere Whitson has three new Brownie troops. The girls will be wearing tee shirts that are being made for them, but they will need khaki pants children’s sizes 4-14 to complete their uniforms. If you would like to help outfit these little girls, please bring the khaki pants to the church office.
•Thanks to those who helped Nurse Kim Thompson with the BMI: Betty Hardison, Jan Fritz, Kim Decker, Lynne Maddux, and Marge Rios.
• When a tutoring session was interrupted by picture taking, the tutor offered to leave, but the child said, "Oh no, please wait for me. Don't leave."

JERE WHITSON SCHOOL WORK DAY
Saturday, April 17
10:00--???
We need volunteers to help clean up and repair the grounds of the school and playground. Please bring tools and gloves to mulch, pick up trash, rake, sweep, mow, weed-eat, and plant flowers to beautify the school. This will be a combined effort of our youth, congregation and Jere Whitson families. Please join us for a worthwhile project!!!
THANK YOU TO OUR PROFESSIONAL VOLUNTEERS
A few weeks ago dental hygienists from Dr. Childress's office spoke to third and fourth graders about dental health. Recently dental hygienist Ashleigh Lee from Steve and Mary Linda Johns' office talked with first and second graders about the importance of taking care of their teeth. We thank these volunteers for their important messages to the children at Jere Whitson Elementary School.

NEW PICNIC TABLES
First United Methodist Church is honored to donate two picnic tables for use at Jere Whitson School. Teachers have not had use of a teacher’s lounge for their lunch periods, oftentimes shuffling between classrooms to eat. We are excited that on sunny days, teachers can take a break and enjoy their lunches outside on the picnic tables. Students will also be able to study at the tables as well.

CLEAN-UP DAY AT JERE WHITSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Join with the youth, Jere Whitson volunteers, and parents of Jere Whitson children for a clean-up day on Saturday, April 17, at 10:00 a.m. Before master plans for garden areas at the school can be implemented, trash needs to be picked up and weeds need to be pulled. If you have them, bring rubber gloves, trash bags and cans, rakes, or any gardening tools that you might want to use. You will be providing a real service to the school through your cooperation with this project. Call the church office to volunteer, 526-2177.

Teachers at Jere Whitson need your help during TCAP tests. Six to ten monitors are needed each day to be in the classroom to observe that all procedures are followed and verify that teachers don't offer help to students. You will not have any responsibilities. The dates are Thursday, April 15; Friday, April 16; Monday, April 19; and Tuesday, April 20. You will need to report to the office at Jere Whitson by 8:15 and plan to stay for three hours.
Please call the church office (526-2177) if you are able to volunteer for one or more days. Thank you!

On Monday afternoons after school, Jennie Ivey teaches creative writing to fourth graders enrolled in the LEAPS program at Jere Whitson Elementary School. Students work on including the "five W's" (who, what, when, where, and why) and using the five senses to enrich their fiction and nonfiction storytelling skills.
