2010 Youth Choir Tour Slideshow

This year the Youth Choir Tour left on Tuesday, June 1st thru Sunday, June 6th. Please enjoy the pictures.

WHAT A GREAT WEEK WE HAD FOR YOUTH CHOIR TOUR 2010!

Boosted by virtually perfect weather, we set out on a bus ride that took 30 singers with 14 leaders and chaperones on a marvelous adventure. From the time we departed on June 1 until the last note of our performance of JOSEPH on June 6th, it was a phenomenal trip!

First and foremost let me say that we did not get the bus stuck, no wreckers were called, no one was late to check in, and no one was stopped when going through metal detectors! Wow……and did I mention that Pastor Drew Shelley did NOT go with us this year….coincidence?????

While the music brought us together, the experiences of the trip bound us together. From our morning devotional time, retirement center visits, sight seeing adventures, and cave explorations to our less-than-moderate intake of food, we laughed, bonded and experienced many memorable events. However, all pales in comparison to the impression that our time spent at FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN has made on the entire group.

There was not one slacker in the 2 hour period we spent in that facility. Jared McKelvey shoveled over 2,000 pounds of rice, Paul Throgmorton, Daniel Nunnally and John Hornby carried hundreds of pounds of boxes and supplies.
Peter Metts and his crews were the champion producers of sealed food packages. Lee Wilder mastered the measuring of rice and soy.

The offering from the Sunday evening performance will allow us to increase our total gift to FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN to $1,750. Thank you, FUMC, for supporting these great kids in their faith journey!

Hear what some of the participants have to say………..
“I have been on every choir tour since I have been in youth group, and I’ve enjoyed each and every one. But this past one was special because everyone got along with everyone and there was a miniscule amount of drama. I feel closer to everyone in choir.” Rachel Nunnally, senior

“The opportunity I had to grow in my faith through serving God both in performance and packaging food for starving children is an experience I will be able to carry with me in my life.” Paige Rupe, CHS graduate

“Favorite quotes from tour: ’I love my bubba!’ and my favorite from Lee Wilder: ‘Why can’t there just be peace?’” Taylor Frye, junior

“An amazing experience that will stick with me for the rest of my life!” Meredith Little, eighth grade

“This was my fourth Youth Choir Tour and by far my favorite. It combined a chance to bond with the rest of the group while performing a show we had worked so long to perfect with a chance to do something meaningful by volunteering for FEED MY STARVING
CHILDREN.” Kelsey Stubbs, MHS graduate

“Watching the kids evolve in their relationships and in working together as they performed, served each other, and as they served those in need was a joy and privilege. I believe they really were the hands of Christ.” Becky Frye, accompanist

To quote James, the bus driver for Gray Lines: “You guys are so awesome I didn’t even have to sweep the bus last night!” (editorial note: that is a fantastic
compliment!) Jan Kathryn Hutchins, sophomore

“Less about me. More about we. All about Thee.” Hannah Lloyd,
freshman

When deciding whether or not to eat a funnel cake at Navy Pier … we are celebrating the Pier! Sandra Funderburk, chaperone

“Watching these youth bring their talent together to perform and cooperate todo a tremendous amount of work for was a true highlight for me.”
Margaret Maxwell, chaperone.
