Barnabas Ministry
Currently there are 54 persons in our congregation who are no longer able to physically attend worship or other church events. These persons still have much to contribute to the life of this church and are an important part of who we are. Therefore, we have started a coordinated ministry with homebound persons called Barnabas Ministry.
In the New Testament, Barnabas was a companion and a person of encouragement. Emphasizing the traits of companionship and encouragement, we are inviting volunteers to share an expanded ministry with homebound members of our congregation. The Barnabas Ministers will make weekly contacts, deliver communion, pray with, and enter the life of the homebound person with their own life.
Individuals who share this ministry will find their lives enriched beyond measure. If you are interested in learning more about Barnabas Ministry, you may contact our Pastors, Drew Shelley or Max Mayo.
Consider for a moment what your life might be like if you were unable to participate in worship, Sunday school classes, Bible studies, etc. While healthy, many of our homebound members attended church and enjoyed the many activities and fellowship within the body of Christ. Circumstances of health or the health of a loved one have made it difficult or impossible to participate. Many miss their church profoundly. We continue to have a mutual obligation of ministry with and for homebound persons. Because they are limited to their homes, we must do our best to connect them to the life of the church.
How can a Barnabas Minister help?
· Call a homebound member regularly.
· Send encouraging notes or cards especially around important personal events.
· Visit once a month.
· Offer a ride to church.
· Pray with and for the homebound person.
· Share communion with the homebound person monthly.
Each Barnabas Minister undergoes 3 hours of training prior to being assigned. This training includes practical and theological information regarding caring ministries and homebound issues; they are led by Max Mayo and Drew Shelley.
Please prayerfully consider being a Barnabas Minister. You can sign up by calling the church office or by speaking with one of our
Pastors.
